Which rims were the better choice ?

Did I $crew up in trying to $crew the dealer ? The new truck I just bought over the weekend had chrome steel rims on it as it sat on the lot. After we had made the deal and they had gotten it detailed and I was taking delivery, the salesman asked if I wanted to keep the window sticker. I told him I did and as he handed it to me, he glanced at it and told me there was a problem.

He pointed out on the sticker that as one of the options, that it listed the truck as having aluminum rims. He got with the service manager who looked at it and verified that it listed aluminum wheels and that it indeed had chrome steel rims on it.

Since I bought the truck out of town, they told me to go to my local dealership this morning and that they would have the aluminum wheels shipped to them and they would change them out for me.

After getting home in the truck Saturday night, I was looking at the window sticker and down at the very bottom of the page, there was an aluminum wheel delete credit of $345 deducted from the total price of the window sticker. This told me that the truck having the chrome steel rims was correct in the beginning.

I did not say anything about what I found on the sticker, so when I took the truck to my local dealership this morning, the service guy there said he had been contacted by the dealership I bought the truck from and that he had the 4 aluminum wheels and tires there to change out onto my truck. They did this and I am now home with alumunim wheels on my truck.

Am I ahead in this ballgame or should I have left the steel ones on the truck? I read some threads about the aluminum wheels having to constantly be checked and re-torqued, as the lug nuts will sometimes loosen on them.

you got a deal with the aluminum wheels, keep them. but go ahead and pull them off and antiseize the area where the wheel contacts the axles. Aluminum wheels will freeze (bind) to your axles and its a pain to get it off. I actually had to get mine towed to the dealership and they charge me 35 bucks to get the wheel off. Says it not a warranty issue.

Tha aluminum rims are much lighter and look much better so just keep them. I'm sure that dealership still made plenty of $$$ off of you....

I have a set of both, and using the steel rims for my winter tires. The steel rims are heavier, but two of the alloy wheels have slow leaks. The holes around the lug nuts on the alloy rims are already more buggered up than on the steel wheels. The alloy wheels look better.
