My pump went out at 92K. It was leaking and I thought it was a gasket so I called the dealer and they said, " get it here quick". It was replaced under warranty

Asked my tech to check my lift pump when he replaced my cp3. He found that the lift pump flow was under speck and replaced both, said the lift pump was starving the cp3. Your lift pump can be dieing a slow death and taking your cp3 with it and you will never know unless you put a gauge on it. I didn't notice any performance loss either. I'd want it checked, my 2 cents..LCH

Just curious about this topic. Is there a way to put a fuel pressure gauge on like the 2nd gens? Also, is this problem as big as the lp in the 24v 2nd gen?

Yes you can put a pressure gauge on your filter cover. Just make sure you isolate it before you bring it ito the cab. I know geno's has a cap that is threaded already but I have seen many guys drill and tap their stock cap.

So the fuel is pressurized after the filter? Not real familiar with the 3rd gen yet, but I want to be familiar when I get my next truck.

yes it is highly pressurized after the filter. If it was before the filter the filter media would have no chance of surviving. We are talking 20-25k pressures here. The "lift pump" in the tank only provides fuel to the injector pump in bulk not pressure. It reduces the stress on the injector pump since most pumps are better pushers than pullers. The filter is between the lift pump and the injector pump.
