Angry

Well, truck is back at the dealer's AGAIN. Death wobbling at the smallest bump. Unsurprisingly they would like us to believe it's the tires. Why? Because they took them off and put another set of tires/wheels on and it didn't do it. Ok, so once the tire starts to get warn (plenty of tread left) it's not as good at ABSORBING the vibration that causes the wobble but they aren't the CAUSE of the wobble! If they were then why has the truck been in for DW with three different sets of tires on, in multiple stages of wear, and why has the dealer never claimed it was the tires before? I told them to put the wheels/tires on another truck and if IT does the Death Wobble then they would be closer to convincing me it's the tires.

Seriously time to look into class action lawsuit! I'm DONE with this dinkin around. I guess the truck should've come with a warning: Do NOT put tires on this truck.

Response to Death wobble in '06 CTD

I have an '06 quad cab CTD with Daystar 2.5" pucks in front and 2" rough country blocks in rear. I started to feel the death wobble after 1,000 miles of having put 315/70/17's (D load) on it (52,000 miles total). I recently went down to 285/70/17's (E load) and put new Dynastar ball joints and all new bushings.

I no longer feel the death wobble.

Ok, as I stated- I'm done. I have filed a complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Its gone through the first round and I'm now compiling everything- repair records, video's, other owner accounts. If you'd like to send me your stuff feel free- I'll include it. OR if you'd like to file your own complaint the more the merrier. Maybe they'll start listening now. If even ONE percent of the Dodge trucks put on the road have DW issues its WAY too many. If the NHTSA complaint goes nowhere I have the letters written and ready to go to all my elected representatives. Oh, sent a letter to 20/20 and 60 Minutes too but doubt they'll do anything. None of us should have to put up with this problem.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the right front Rancho 9000 adjustable shock was blown out before 15K miles. Put Bilstiens in the front, installed the steering box stabilizer and new Michelin ms2 and the truck rides better than new and no death wobble at all!

My thing is, if Dodge ever does decide to do something about this and their is a class action, what about us guys that have lifts our our trucks. Are we going to get screwed, because we altered the stock suspension even tho all the stock trucks have the DW too?

Good point. Don't know. DODGE dealer modified the suspension on my truck. So what does that mean? It means they admit there's a problem. I'd guess even those with lifts will fall under the settlement - if we ever get that far!

Just found this thread. I have a clunk, but no wobble. Sounded like I had a loose shock but after crawling under, https://picasaweb.google.com/12PACKJ...57708806326434 is loose. I can move it ~ 30 degrees.

No outstanding recalls on my truck. Only 48K.

Ok, guys, sorry to sound 'uneducated' about this but I am not sure what ya'll mean by 'death wobble'? I do have what feels like wheels not balanced in my steering wheel. However, after getting tires rotated, balanced and seeing no residual caked on mud, the 'vibrations' were still felt in the steering wheel, mainly at 60 mph +/-. Thanks, Mary Ann

What was loose? I put on a steering stabilizer and I have the same problem now after a couple thousand miles. Seems like a loose shock, but I can't find anything loose yet.

Yer link goes to a car show.

The clunk stopped after the outer stabilizer links were replaced. I was told it was common. The ball joints needed to be replaced as well and that was done last week. Night and day difference. I now have a very tight front end and best of all, I now have zerks. Obviously, I'm not a fan of sealed ball joint units right now.

You shouldn't be, but I was and I wasn't the first owner I know that needed them before 50K. I could have waited a bit, but with a trip coming up next month and my annual inspection in August (it probably wouldn't have passed) I wanted to get it done.

There's a write up on here about how to do it. The place that did mine said the day before my appointment, a guy with 20K on an 09 came in. His were worse than mine. Hopefully the 3/36 will cover it for him.

oh, oh, not sure the whole implications of this but... I have 99,000 on my truck. Some increased vibrations at 60-64mph but also have an extremely sensitive steering wheel. Is this related or just normal for the truck. Seems it is so easy to swerve with the stearing????
