3500 banging
3500 banging
I have a 03 3500 in the shop with a bad lift pump, but I also have an 05 that has been seeing double duty. This morning it ran out of fuel while idling. I put new fuel in and it fired right up and ran for 20minutes. Then it started this horrid banging. Oil pressure just fine and it runs nice and quiet under the banging.
I'm pretty p*ssed at Dodge this morning.
I am in Alberta and its -33, so I'm also cold.

Its cold enough for your engine to shut down 3 cyls if your idling for a long period of time.
Mine did this when we had our first blast of REAL cold. This was in early December just before heading to Edmonton from Regina. It does not sound very good. Even with the idle at 1000 with the fast idle, its still not enough to warm them up good with our COLD temps.
As for your 03 lift pump...theres lots failing.
Some folks seem to think its more often in Alberta...however, its mainly because a high amount of these trucks are sold in Alberta. A very high percentage of all Cummins trucks go to AB.
On a stock truck I saw 2 psi.
Added an EZ and took it to minus 2...pump was done. Its not a good part on these trucks.
I'd be curious to how the 05 with in tank pump works out.

You can hear the engine running under the banging.I'm guessing its an injector. It is waaaay to loud for me to drive, I mean....its banggin'. Therefore, I have no idea how the power is.
To the dealer in the morning.
Don't forget - my 03 and now my 05 are dead. My wife's liberty is going to the bush in the morning and I have to deal with the always-spoiling-for-a-fight-dealership. I hope they are decent for a change.

My 04.5 had developed the infamous horrible knock which disappeared after they replaced two injectors. Runs like a top now.
I sure hope those in-tank pumps don't prove to be a problem, they can't be easy to replace!
