3.42 Gears for Mega
That is why I mentioend getting together at a "dyno day" or a DHRA event, and make a "true street" event out of teh MPG crew. You know how at some events (for like Mustangs) they have oh so many cars make a 50 mile round trip, and then make 3 back to back to back passes down the track and the one with the best avg of the 3 runs is the winner.
Well, we could gather at teh track. Everyone follow down to the local fuel station, and eveyone fill up there. Then, everyone leave from there, and drive "x" miles, and meet back at the same fuel station, and fill up again, and then calculate miles driven (everyone would be the same) and then calculate how many gallons each member put in.
See, what we could do is since everyone lives across the country, we could do this:
In Oct they have a DHRA event here in Houston. The one's concerned with fuel mileage, gather at teh track. Say there ends up being 10 of us. Well, teh 10 of us could get together and post our results on DTR.
Then, say there is a dyno day in South Carolina, and a group gets together there, and doe the same thing.
Then Utah,and etc....
WEll, obviously here in Houston, it is flatter than Utah, and the results would be proably be different, BUT we would have more to go by than Joe Schmo saying he gets "X" MPG. We would have 10 (or whatever number) of DTR members backing up Joe Schmo's claim. Follow me?
Kind of like on dyno day, numbers get posted here on DTR from all over teh country. They don't HAVE to be at said dyno to prove that they put up "x" numbers. There were fellow DTR members there to back up the claim (and of course teh graph, but you get my idea.

Joe Schmo is DEFINITELY invited.
We can put this sucker to bed finally. OK, I am going to be at Houston with my truck for the DHRA event. If anyone wants to meet me there, send me a PM, email, whatever. And hopefully we can get some of these trucks together once and for all, and see who is full of what. And teh thing is, I REALLY want to be the one that has to apologize. Why, you may ask? Because I WILL, that's why. I know we get some guy that says "X" MPG, and he runs our test, and he ony gets "X" MPG, he is gonna want to crawfish out of it, make some excuse. Not me, if someone says that they can get 25MPG, and I am there to witness, I will be the first to hop on here and say so. I have NO problems with that! So, who ever wants to meet at DHRA in October in Houston, count me in. I will organize it, if that is what it takes. Whatever as long as it happens. The "mystery MPG" (kind of like Bigfoot or the Lochness Monster) has gone on for too long. I want to catch this sucker
Tolet people know I am serious about this, I wil map out a route, come up with some guidliness we will have to follow, and then post them here on the site. Then, we can make changes (if needed) so everyone is happy about the rules. WE could even make a contest about it, the one closest to the MPG claim wins some prize or something, I don't know. I wil make up some rules tonight, and then post, and see what you guys think about it. Youknow, like:
"X" miles at say 60 MPH
"X" miles at say 70 MPH
"X" miles at stop and go through town driving.
And drive say a total of 200 miles or 250 miles or whatever.
"X" miles at say 60 MPH
"X" miles at say 70 MPH
"X" miles at stop and go through town driving.
And drive say a total of 200 miles or 250 miles or whatever.
And for teh G56 crew, stock tires:
3.42
2000 = 67 MPH
2100 = 70 MPH
2200 = 74 MPH
3.73's
2000 = 61
2100 = 64
2200 = 67
And if anyone wants to figure out whatever, I found a pretty handy calcualtor on a Camaro website
www.f-body.org/gears/
It has defaults for most make and model trannies, so if you have an auto, just enter the trany you have, an it will do the work for you. Pretty cool.

My rpms with stock tires with G56 are 64 mph at 2000 rpms. At 70 I am 2175rpms. This is with the 3.73's.
Maybe your speedometer is off, or your tach, or both, or maybe you don't have "stock" tires. Maybe you replaced them with the same "size", but maybe they measure out slightly different. I used a mathematical formula, not some numbers pulled out of the air

i have an excel spread sheet to track my MPG, and it VARIES A LOT due unknown reasons. it's from 16 to 20 with no rhyme or reason.
overhead is off several MPG on the 06, even after the reflash.
I just checked using the calculator you provided and at 2000 rpms I should be running 64 (which is what I said so my tach or speedo or correct tire size is not off) and is working perfectly. My G56 overdrive ratio is .79
I will double check.....
Yeah, with the .79 as OD and stock tires I am coming up with 61MPH @ 2000 RPM. Unless I got the stock tire size wrong....30.38" in diameter?
OK, I came up with some rough guide lines today on teh MPG event. I will not be able to post them until tomorrow (long story) But I came up with some 60-70 MPH crusing as teh main part, since that obviously is gnna get teh best fuel economy, and I do not want any crap like, "well, I only get "X"MPG when I drive with no stop and go driving invloved". So, driving 60-70 MPH came out to like 90% of the driving, with 10% through town for a total of 200 miles. 180 of it was highway.
