24v/common rail question

had this in the 6.7 forum before so i changed it to here ...
not sure if i should ask this here or somewhere else, but here goes. I have low compression on the truck (in sig) and i want to know does if a 24v motor from a 98.5 to 2002 could be used in a common rail?
like, if i took everything off of the common rail ie. injectors, head, turbo etc and put it all on a motor from a 98.5-02 would this be the same block?

its hard to find common rails but 98.5 and 02's motors are everywhere i look.

just wondering if anyone knows anything about this.

VJ

So you want to know if the block from a 24v is the same as a common rail block, ie. are all the coolant passages, bolt holes, oil return holes and mounting bosses either the same or interchangeable.
I have no idea but I know that you don't want to get a 53 block if you do get one. They had thinner castings and were prone to crack, especially if you added power or towed excessively heavy.

Why don`t you rebuild the original?

In the original sales info that I have for my HO 03 it says "block structure changes for NVH stiffened block, sculpted side walls, bed plate, greater durability for block oilpan and for lower noise.
