2006 Spraying Diesel fuel everywhere!

Hey guys...I have 250K on my truck, stock, no mods, never had to even go to the shop for anything....ever!

Well for some reason this AM i drove the truck to work like normal and then noticed I smelled diesel. Under the truck it looked like somebody stuck mytruck in the belly and she was bleeding out!

So I shut her off, cleaned up the diesel which was everywhere all over the motor and drivetrain... tightened down all the fuel filter and pump connections, checked the gaskets, etc.... fired her up and it looked like a geyser erupting diesel mist out of the top of the engine block right over the whole fuel injection housing....

I really have no clue what to do.

has anyone else had this problem? is it my whole injection system or maybe just a faulty injector?

Thanks everyone in advance

Wulf

#4 is going to be the 4th injection line counting from the front of the engine towards the rear......for some reason they were very prone to cracking. It's about a $50 fix.

Mine just did the same thing as you described, just fogged diesel all over the engine bay and down under too. It was the #4 injector line. Fortunately for me, a buddy had a spare and came to rescue me. I have now ordered 2........1 to replace his spare and another spare for me to keep under the back seat in case this happens again. Apparently it is very common.

Never had my #4 go, but I check it every time I pop the hood open. Also carry a spare #4, just in case! You never know when you might need it! They're cheap enough, so it's a good idea to keep a spare, since that's the one that usually goes.

Another vote for #4 injector line!!

I checked mine every oil change and it finally got me early this summer. Probably started to loosen right after I checked it. I now check them ALL more often for piece of mind!

It's a $60 part (from my dealer) and 10 min fix. The new one has a much better clamp and bolt.

lol.. thanks guys... just dried everything off then ran a little fuel through the lines... sure enough... the #4 turned up wet... can really "see" the crack... but i guess at 26K PSI it doesnt take much of a hole to make a big mess!

Im amazed at over 1/4 million miles this JUST happened.... Im gonna tighten em all up for piece of mind...

Yep...#4 got me with only 45K on the clock. (now carry a spare as well)

Had the dealer replace that one (under warrenty)...That said, if and when I have to replace another one on my own, what is the appropriate torque for these injector lines? Anyone know?

Obviously on the side of the road (where the last episode left me stranded) I would be looking to get it "just tight enough"...however, when I got home I know I would be looking to make sure they were all up to spec...

Again, just curious...

Glad you got everything worked out there Wulf!

How about a vote to check the little blue clamps at every oil change

That's what I do and so far so good at 131K miles. BTW, my oil change interval is 5K miles.

So this is interesting... i went and checked at genos and they dont have any #4 lines. I emailed support inquiring on why they dont have any and this is what they wrote back

"We will be getting more, but I can't say when. We have had them on order for about 3 weeks, so hopefully soon. There has been a part number change by the manufacturer on the #4 line, indicating a change in supplier, design, application, or some other change. This change is probably the reason for the delay in receiving the part. I'm sorry I don't have more information on our expected delivery date."

Does anyone know what this is about?
