2006 mega cab started by itself???????
My dad cut his truck off and removed the key, I pulled in behind him and cut mine off, removed the key and locked the doors with the keyless fob. Guess what happened! His truck started by itself, and as far as we know neither of them have remote start. He unlocked the door and put the key back in the ignition while it was running and hit the break to put it in gear. when he touched the brake, it cut off. We couldn't duplicate it again. Its been running fine ever since. Any ideas?
No, its not a joke. I haven't heard of this before. He bought his truck used and its got all kinds of high end stereo stuff but, nothing was said about a remote start. My dad doesn't know much about that stuff and i've never seen where a remote start hooks up and how it works, so i'm 100% sure its just something crazy going on.
Pull the cover down under the column and look for any added wires and a box of some sort wired in. Usually there will be some relays also. I'd say they had the remote start wired into the door locks. Did he hit the button more than once? Usually they have it on a 2 or 3 pusle input from the door locks.
The ONLY way it could have happened is if his truck has some sort of a remote starter on it. NO B.S. ! LOL Need to drop the column cover and look for the box. Without that, there is no possible way for it to happen. It may be a factory ( dealer added ) remote start or an aftermarket, but IF it happened like you said, it has some sort of a remote start on it.

OK, tried this again this morning. Found his truck does have some sort of remote start. We were able to duplicate the issue. His factory key fob is what makes it work. You have to hit the button 3-4 times, then there is a delay. Which is why I thought my key fob is what started it. Anyway, thanks for all the help. Now i feel like an idiot. LOL
I have installed several remote starts, It died when he hit the brake pedal cause its a theft deterant part of the remote start it has one I'd bet. Look under the hood it should have a pin mounted as a safety so it won't start while the hood is up. VZ dude is right it will be tied into the harness in the steering column, so you should see several wires tied in and relays...
