well my tuck has been at dodge since thursday theve given me 2 loaners the first couple days i drove a 2006 2500 4x4 6spd fully loaded short bed now im drivin a 2006 2500 4x4 auto. well im thinkin about gettin a new one id like an auto but i dont know anything about these new trannys there puttin in there what are yall's thoughts
If I was buying a new truck right now I would go for the auto with the Jacobs exhaust brake and then leave the power adders off. That being said, I don't like auto in pickups but I have two friends with the G56's and I wouldn't own one. I love my NV5600 but I guess it worked to good and made too much sense to keep it around.
FWIW my dad has an auto coming with the jake on it. Should be a great truck.

The new G56 6th gear ratio is too low and the engine turns too high. If you don't care one way or another, you might get better mileage out of the auto. (Which defies all normal logic for a well-thought out design.)
It probably has to do with the top gear in the manual not being able to handle the torque when pulling a heavy load with a turned-up engine. The new tranny is a cost-cutting quick fix in my opinion. The real fix would have been to make the rear end ratio higher so that the top gear could have been 1:1, but that probably would have cost too much.

I voted 6sp cause thats what i have and i really like it. I think ill like it even more when i finally lift the truck and get some 37's. That'll put my interstate rpm's right where i want them. At 70 with my 35's, im running 2k rpm's and my mileage doesnt go down or up. At 60-65 my mileage rises, at 75+ it goes down, but at 70-75 it stays put. If you stay with stock tires and dont tow much, the 6sp will be geared alittle low.

So, what mileage do you get loaded? I got around 9mpg with a 24' cattle trailer and about 9,000 lbs worth of brangus heifers. And that was going 60-65 mph.
That must be a tandem dual trailer w/ 14 ply tires, I nor anyone I know can keep tires on cattle trailers at 60, much less 75+.

I voted for auto because I have and like an auto. But I really think that you should just make yourself happy and buy what you like. Your the one paying for it and driving it. There are always ways to make it do what you need the truck to do, for instance the Jake brake.
My vote probly doesn't count, I learned to drive on a '73 blue oval with three on the tree, and have never had an auto since.
I think I would go spastic with nothing to do

I voted 6sp because my truck is in the shop with 3900 miles on it because the auto is acting up. Left me stranded 3 times and it will hopefully be traded in on a 6speed soon. 0% Financing hurry up!!!!!!
