2006 48 re transmission questions
This is going to be several questions actually. M 06 2500 4wd hD the transmission filter changed and service about a year and 25k miles ago. I am new to an auto always drive a standard and don't know a tremendous amount about an auto. I would check the fluid and it was always over the full mark about 1 to 2 inches. Truck had no problems and I didn't worry about it. Loki g back I don't think I let it idle long enough after driving it before checking it. Question 1. How long does it have to idle after driving to read accurately. Seems like now it takes 5 to 10 minutes before it reAches a stable normal reading.
Also. I tow. 24 ft stock trailer frequently and haven't had any issues. Last week I started moving hAy about 50 miles on a 30 ft flatbed. It's about 20k plus the weight of the trailer. More strain than the stick trailer. I changed engine oil after the dAy after the first load and noticed ATF dripping at. Bell housing inspection plate area. It isn't coolant. I have had and fixed the rubber hose issue and rechecked it. Why would this happen. I don't know if the trams was just overfilled Or if it was right and I was to dumb to properly check it. Now the level is a little over half way up hash marks and staying stable the last few days. Need some advice sorry to be longwinded. Need to haul more stuff but don't want to cost more money to fix by being dumb.

Best way to check the fluid level, from what i have been told, is to have the tranny at operating temperature and put it in r,d,2,1, for a 30 or so seconds. Place in neutral and check level on stick. Ok to be slightly over but i don't think 1-2 inches is good.

As mentioned, the most important part is to make sure you are checking it in neutral. It will definitely measure as being way overfull if you check it in park.
If it is indeed a couple inches overfull when checked in neutral, I would be sure to remove some fluid to get it to the correct level.
