2006 = Single Speed Sensor in rear????

2006 / 2500 / 4X4 / Diesel / Crew Cab

My "ABS - Brake" light keeps going on and off as it might have a broken wire somewhere. Does the 2006 have a single speed sensor in the rear differential?

I know older 2500 series trucks do and this is a problem item.

The rear wheel speed sensor is on top of the rear diff. $15 at AutoZone.

Thanks! But it's strange that all the online parts store only list a singe rear speed sensor for trucks up to 2005. That's why I asked.

Guess I need to go to a parts store and check their parts computer.

You're welcome.

Rechecked AZ site, there is another brand, Dorman Part #970-280 for $18 if the Duralast #SU8056 isn't available.

Also check the ABS fuse under the hood. On 2006 models the fuse location is mis-labeled! I thought my speed sensor was bad and I eventually traced it back to the fuse after going a little crazy.

IIRC, on the 2006 the ABS fuse location is actually labeled "SPARE"

Does the speedometer stop working when the light goes off? If it does then it’s the rear, if it doesn’t, like it did on mine, it was a front hub going bad. There is an ABS sensor in each front hub. I would jack up each front wheel and see if they feel “ruff”.

Speedometer and cruise control still work fine. This started to happen this past fall after the truvck was used on my yearly hunting trip and went through some real rough country.

I installed a free wheeling hub kit a couple years ago. So it must be a front wheel sensor or maybe that simple fuse is loose.

I'll check both tomorrow.

BTW, even with the lights on the dash illuminated, the ABS still functions. Lord knows we've had enough ice and snow this year for me to test it in a parkinglot a number of times.
