2005 Transmission and Rear Diff question

I am looking at having my transmission filter and fluid changed. The first one, at 40,000 miles, was done at dealer due to warranty issues. I will supply the shop with materials, so I need to ask , how much and what brand of fluid do I need to buy? Also, with 80,000 miles, do I need to consider changing the rear diff oil? If so, how much and what brand do I need of that? Thanks..

If you currently have a stock transmission pan, you would want to supply 7 quarts of ATF+4 transmission fluid. Any brand will due as the additive package in ATF+4 is formulated by Lubrizol in each licensed brand. Most people use Valvoline, Castrol, or Mopar ATF+4. The gasket is reusable.

Now would be the time to change the rear differential fluid. The gasket on the rear differential is reusable. Just be sure to wipe the mating surfaces off with a clean rag. As far as differentials go, AAM calls for 75w/90 GL-5 differential fluid. The rear 11.5 diff. will take 122 oz. or 3.8 quarts of fluid. Most people use Valvolone 75w/ 90 or Mobil 1 75w-90 LS gear oils. Be sure that the shop torques the cover bolts to 24 ft-lbs and no more than 30.
