2005 Greasable UJ source ASAP

All,

A squeak started in the truck the other day, sounded like UJ (rear) brought to Dodge Dealer (uh, er...). Told the service guy I would pay extra to get me some greasable UJs to install in the truck, apparently "none are available" per Dodge for this rig. 2005, quad cab, long bed, 6 speed, cummins, 48K.

Does anyone have an online source for Universal Joints with grease fittings?? I am in northern new england, parts places normally kinda suck here.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated! THANK YOU!

Andy (NH/VT)

2wd or 4wd?

Napa has Precision u-joints for sale...they are greasable. Look for Napa part numbers that start with "PUJ". Hope that helps.

Your 6 speed should use #351 Precision. Note that it will take some grinding on the end caps about 1/16" needs to come off each end to fit properly.
You'll see what I am talking about once you get the old joints out and compare.

I think I'd trust the factory style Spicer joints long before those aftermarket greasable ones. The seals are not nearly as positive, and allow moisture to enter the greasable joints, and most of the time, when you grease them, you can only get the grease to enter a couple of the caps.

There are only 2 companys that make the CORRECT u-joint for the longbed w/6speed cummins. AAM for Dodge and Neapco. Greaseable u-joints are not strong enough for the driveshaft so they are not recommeded. You can however use them on the axle. The 351's from NAPA are for the auto trans. DON'T grind anything.

I grind mine. If I dont they dont fit.
I have been using them for almost 2 years now.
They are not weak....I have over 25 hooks to the sled with the precisions on recently took one off to see how it was doing and it looked great and didnt need changed.

Jerry, saying they are not strong enough is completely incorrect.
Unless you are sledpulling on a weekly basis you are not testing your U joints as hard as I am PERIOD.

Well I'm just passing on what Gary from Gary's Driveline told me and he's been building drive shafts for a long time. Until recently the only place to get the right joint was Dodge (AAM) Neapco just released theirs. I think your just lucky so far with grinding the caps. When one goes it will probably gut the bottom of your truck. If I buy a part and have to modify it to work, it's not the right part. Just my .02

Generally, the greasable u-joints aren't as strong as their solid brethren when comparing similiar alloys; however, quality greaseable u-joints are often much stronger than the cheap generic solid joints.

Well I don't know whick ones a are stronger but I just replaced all three of the ones in my driveshaft because they were failing after 50K of light driving. So my opinion is that ANYTHHING other than the stock crap is a vast improvement. I have NAPA greaseable.
