2005 brake oddity

Have had this truck since new and this has happened twice. Both times it happened, it was raining. The first time was probably 10-12 years ago and then again this week. I applied the brakes and it felt like you were going too fast over rumble strips, followed by a single chime. Still had brake pressure, but not like normal and the pedal was stiff. Has not shown any codes either time. Anyone have any idea what this might be or have had a similar experience?

That sounds like the ABS system activating. I get that sometimes when I am in slick conditions and get on the brakes too hard, completely normal. I've never heard a chime when mine does it, but I do know some vehicles chime when the ABS activates.

Have you ever changed the brake fluid in it? I have an 04 and changed mine a while back... it was pretty rough looking!

Makes sense. I have changed the fluid, as recently as back in February. The chime and no code was very confusing. Thanx4 the insight.

My 2004.5 did that and shortly after the abs module went bad.

How did you know it went bad? Were there codes/MIL or was it doing something?

madhat, the abs light went on and it would go back out if I shut the rig off and restarted it, then would come on randomly and then occasionally it would act like the abs was working on normal stops. The brakes would suddenly get hard to push then would grab and almost put you thru the windshield, it was pretty scary for sure.
