2004 Trans Questions

My 2004 (and not the half) has the tow/haul button on the gear selector. Does that mean that I have the newer 48re trans or is that still the 47re with a few updates? And if it is the 47re will it down shift as I am going down grades with the cruise set?

FLYINHIGH 79 What your tow haul button does is lockout 4th gear. You do have the 48re trans but you dont have downhill lockup of the torque converter for downhill motor brakeing. For 2005 they droped the 4th gear lockout ,- replaced it with tow haul mode which raises the shift points to higher rpm and added torque converter lockup for downhill motor brakeing. For 2006 they put the 4th gear lockout back in along with the 2005 tow haul mode. The 2006 setup should work well

tow/haul button locks out 4th gear. going down hill if ttc is in lockup and cruise is set it will downshift if it exceeds about 10km/hr from set speed. If tow/haul mode is activated it will shift to 3rd and providing you are above 70km/hr(45mph) ttc will lock and hold you going down hill. use brakes as required though just did this on the weekend pulling my 5th.

Thank you for all the great information. I noticed the other day while not in tow/haul even going down a steep grade at about 45mph, the veh did down shift from over drive to 3rd but I want going fast enough to mean a whole lot. Kinda suprised me. Thanks for all the help on this info. Again I am kinda knew to the site but I like it already.

equipment code

http://store.dodge-diesel.org/dev/pr...threadid=60274

<<<Regardless of the engine, there's also an "Equipment Identification" label in the glove compartment. If your label has "DGA" beside the transmission, it means it's a 4spd auto. The next line will be "DG8" if it's a 48RE or "DGP" if it has a 47RE. The label will also show whether or not the torque converter is locking type or not.>>>

If the above quote is true, my dodge manufactured 5/03 has a 48RE regardless of engine. I am very glad.
