It is not suppose to. Tow/Haul locks out overdrive!

As forwardho said n model year 2004 tow/haul is a overdrive lockout. On 2005 tow/haul changes the shift points but does not lockout OD. 2006 has the option to do both od lockout and a true tow/haul.

Do a search for a switch that resloves the problem. I haven't done it, but I think a solution exists.

Just use Tow/Haul to get the rig moving and up to speed and then hit the button to allow O/D to engage.

Since tow/haul only locks out overdrive on my 04.5, I just leave tow/haul off when I'm towing my 8,000lb camper. Seems to have no problem towing it and I get better fuel mileage. The motor turns 1800rpm at 65mph, which seems just right for this engine. (Stock tires (265/75/15) for the summer with 3.73 gears). If I tow in a hilly terrain, I may turn on tow/haul again until the road flattens out.
If I'm hauling heavier, over 10K, I will leave tow/haul on and stay under 60mph.
