2004 Dodge 2500 4.56 gear swap questions

I will be replacing my 3.73 gears and installing 4.56 gears in my 9.25 AAM front axle and in my 11.5 AAM rear axle.

I had a few questions for anyone who has done this swap:

First, did you have any problems taking anything apart(ie. removing pinion yoke etc.) or putting it back together?

Second, did the pinion depth come out correctly with the factory pinion shim?

Third, how many tries did it take before you achieved an acceptable pattern?

Lastly, any tips that you may have?

Thank you in advance.

4:56 gears

4:56s WOW - that will pull a house but only on city streets!

Why such a low gear? I take it you do not travel on the highway?

The reason for lowering the gear ratio is that I just put 37" tires on it.

It will be be closer to stock , but with the power these trucks make ,it`s not necessary.....plus your HWY rpms will be screaming.

I had to run my stock wheels/tires recently , and hated the higher rpms the truck was running.

I haven't changed gears in an AAM, but have done many other brands of differentials. If you are able to shim to the original CD on the end of the pinion, you can usually hit the right pattern on the first try.
