I'm sure somebody will chime in with the old "wait 20,000 miles till it breaks in" line....but seriously...you are part of a group here that is experiencing terrible mileage with the cummins 600. Apparently, Dodge has done something to help with mileage on some of the newer build trucks but they have yet to respond to several of us who are getting 12mpg or worse mileage. Do a search and check out some of the talk about poor mileage. I am keeping my fingers crossed hoping something will be done about this, but so far I have been to two dealers and have been lied to and I have seen no improvement from a supposed reflash and a mysterious "bad injector" they said.
Check the sticker on the drivers side of the valve cover and see what your mfg. date is and please let us know.

Man, I thought my mileage was bad towing my 5000# trailer around town, I get 10.5-11.5.

No load around I only get about 14.5, and I am driving it easy.

Your numbers seem way off. I just had mine at the dealer Friday and all checked out Ok.

Mileage still sucks.

I figured out how to get decent mileage out of my truck. This afternoon at 1500 RPM/55 MPH down a slight incline I saw the overhead read 18+ for about 2 miles. It lasted until I hit level pavement and then it settled around 16. Once I got on Interstate I set the CC at 1900 RPM/70 MPH, reset the overhead and it settled at about 15 MPG. The overhead usually shows around 10 in town. Friday I will pull my 8K trailer to south Texas and I hope I get better than 4.5!

Dave,
Let's see now, I believe you have the record for lowest mileage and least power. Some people have one and some have the other but very few have both and none to the extent you have them. Congrads!
Now with all those other trucks with over a million miles I'm surprised to see this is your first post.

How heavy is your boat?

Ya, low power and low mileage would IMHO point to something wrong with your truck, not all the trucks in general.

Fuel filter? Bad injector? Did you ask your dealer about it by any chance?

I just had a reflash on my 600 for Missing and smoking , didnt get any better milage. Right after I had it flashed I pulled a 36ft pace inclosed trailer about 450 miles agenst a bad headwind I got 8.2 Mpg running 75 mph and on the way back empty with a tail wind I did get 14.5. My old truck a 02 CTD with the same gears and a power puck would get 10.5 pulling the same trailer and 16 empty at the same speeds and it didnt change much with wind. I do only have 4000 miles on my 600 I am too hoping that there is another flash. I only get 13 mpg at 60 mph. joel

I too suffer from the bad mpg thing. I only have 1700 miles, but I have been averaging around 13.5 empty until this last fill-up. I did notice an all time low of about 12.2 while pulling my 14x5 trailer with 2 ATV's. This tank I seem to be right at 15 mpg for whatever reason, I will accept that but I expected better. The better mpg is with Chevron fuel, as opposed to Shell or BP previously.

These things HATE the city. I can drive about 25 miles of highway and watch the mpg increase on the overhead from around 13 to 15.5. Just one stop light however will knock it right back down. I'm not surprised that someone would get that type of milage towing, knowing how little milage they get empty.
