2004.5 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins

yesterday my truck was running great till after driving down the road for awhile the engine started losing power and then died. I couldn't get it started again and I suspect that my fuel is gelling. I put diesel 911 in to the fuel filter and fuel tank. It will not start running and stay running for about a min or so at a time but then will die on my again. Once it dies it is hard to get started again. Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong or if I am right and it is fuel gelling what else to try to get it to stay running?

Thank you

Have you checked your fuel filter and your fuel pump.

I would say the fuel pump. Have you replaced the filter mounted canister? That sounds like exactly what happened when mine died from the OEM pump.

I have checked the fuel filter but not the fuel pump. I'm not sure how to check this fuel pump as I have never messed around with one before. The fuel filter has been getting changed like it is suppose to. I an getting these codes P 0088 P0148 P0514 P0628. At this point my batts are low on voltage from cranking it.

Do you have the filter mounted pump? That's probably it.

Feel free to call me, I have a little experience with these...

lift pump gone bye bye. Are you still under warranty? The fix is the in-tank version they started using on the 05's.

Yup, that's exactly what my 04.5 did when the Lift pump went. Mine went at 22k miles. I got the intank pump installed under warranty. I now have just over 60k on the truck with no issues so far.

does anyone know what the best way to test to make sure it is the fuel pump. Also if I am going to replace the fuel pump I might as well do an after market one, I was looking at the PureFlow Technologies AirDog Air/Fuel Separation System FP150. Anyone have any suggestions?

I agree with you all that its a lift pump but before I go spending the money on a new lift pump I wanna test the old stock one to be sure that is it. Does anyone know how to go about testing it?

Sure. Turn the key on and listen by the wheel well on the driver side. You can actually see the canister mounted pump from there. If you don't hear it running, it's not working. To go further, you can unhook the ECM connector from the pump, and see if you are getting 12v. If yes, then it is the pump. If not, the problem is elsewhere.

Perfect, ill check it as soon as I get home. Thank you all for your help. Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what new pump I should use? I read the post about the holly pump but I'm not sure if I should go with the or the other one I posted in here, a different aftermarket pump or go with the in tank factory pump?

Just get an external LP and plumb it in down on the frame. Your overall filtration is better with the stock filter than the AD filters (final is better with AD, but f/w sep is MUCH better with stock)..

Then you can add additional filtering if you want to.
