2003 transmission question

I have an 03 2500 CTD with a 4 speed auto tranny. It has an OD off/on button on the shifter. Is it possible to modify/reprogram the truck to have this operate as a tow/Haul button? Or is the button in essence the same thing?

Thanks in advance

Tow haul changes the shift patterns. My 05 came with towhaul, but I was unable to lockout overdrive(even in towhaul). I had them reprogram it so it is like yours(I can now lock out overdrive.) Is there a reason you want to reprogram it?

Yes. My understanding of tow/haul is what you have already stated. changing the shift points and also having the ability to haul in O/D. I have already tried towing in O/D and the truck pulls great. Although I only tow 4000 lbs, which isnt much of a load on the engine or tranny. I think it would be better with Tow/Haul rather than O/D lockout.

I like to be able to lock out overdrive when going down a long downhill grade. I don't want to shift in and out when going up long uphill grades as well. The setup on the 06 or 07 is best, as you have towhaul, and the lockout as well(ie. 3 choices). I did the opposite of what you want, as I like the ability to lockout OD, and had no problems with my 03 tranny when towing.
