2003 and newer "recall" for lift pump/CP3

I thought you all should know this as I just spent alot of money finding out the hard way. Up through the 04.0's i believe, we have the lift pump attached to the filter under the hood. This pump goes bad from some bad electrical signals burning out the brushes in the pump from the ECM. End result: Bosch CP3 dead, and replacement. I got the P0251, bad IP code. Put a new one in (on my dime) and no fix. Even though the lift pump was making its noise, no fuel was flowing so after alot of digging, dodge is replacing the pump with a drop in tank lift pump at no charge, and this includes your CP3 if it dies too. Lucky me, i did not turn in the core yet, so I'll have an extra CP3 laying around and I'm putting the original back on the truck and they will replace it and the lift pump with the in tank lift mod. They will also reflash the computer all no charge.

I have the 03.0 truck, with 55k on it and its still under warranty for 13 more months up to 100k. Don't pay $1200 for a new CP3 that won't fix the problem - make that call to the dealer. Dishman Dodge in Spokane, WA is the dealer and I'm very happy with their openness and willingness to fixing it - so kudos to them for not stonewalling me.

What about LP's that have already been retrofitted with the intank LP? I paid about $900.00 bucks for one 70000 miles ago.

Kind of misleading information. It is only free replacement if you are still under warranty. A recall is issued by the Government and all repairs are free regardless of mileage or year.

lift pump

So does it have to fail to be replaced under warranty? Or can a guy request to have the original replaced before it leaves you stranded under warranty?

Thanks

I'm sure if it's a warranty issue, they will NOT fix it til it breaks.
I had the wifes 06 Cherokee in 3 times for a noise under the hood at start up that I told them sounded pulley related, but since it was under warranty, I wasn't wasting my time tracking it down. All 3 times they could not duplicate the sound (it was intermittent). I told the girl to make note of what I thought the problem was because I was within 2000 miles of the end of the warranty. She told me that it would NOT ,matter, that they will NOT cover it if it is out of warranty. Well 3,000 miles out of warranty the noise became constant. I took it back ready for a fight. They said the ac pulley "fell apart" and it would be fixed for free. Turned out to be the whole a/c pump. They fixed it for free. Thank God THAT was covered. I'm sure they would have tried to charge me had I not made them write it down previously. And the worst part is, I am sure had they checked the pulleys the first time, they would have found the problem.

Now... I've seen members get their LP replaced under the Cummins 100k warranty.

Holy cow! The best my stock LP ever got was 8 psi! That's amazing that you are getting 15 psi!

I would not want a LP in the tank, put an in-line walbro in there and be done w/ it. THrow a spare in the tool box, it doesn't get any easier or more dependable IMO. Although I personally junked the entire LP/filter assembly.....an inline pump into the factory pump works great.
