2003 have ac ploblem?please
I have dodge 2003 ,3500 laramie . AC not working from last week. Blower is working good. Ac light comes on. no cool air . warm air is coming. I checked ac fuse and ac relay ,they are ok. I am not hearing compressor clicking on when I turn ac on. Can it be compressor problem? can anyone help me . thanks a lot.

The gauge on cans in store are junk. Good way to get in trouble or seriouslly hurt yourself. The low 134a level is sure indication of leak and adding more 134a will only be a temp fix. Don't continue to pollute by getting it permantlly fixed. Get a professional to repair. Would you attempt repair of your home A/C (?) unit.

IMA just add the 134 slowly and you should be fine. Have the A/C on high/max and listen and watch for the compressor to kick on. I have done my own for years and I am a shade tree mechanic at best. Yes I would work on my house A/C as well. A/C is a really simple process of compression and evaporation. As many times as lightning struck around my house this spring I think it made more ozone than I could ever distroy. My 93 makes crazy high pressures unless the aftermarket electric fan is running so that is another source for losing your freon. The compressors have a relief valve that keep the systems from overpressure and if the condenser is not cooled properly the pressure can get high enough to bleed the freon out the relief valve. Get your low side pressure up to about 35 and see how it goes from there. Could be a leak that slowly bleeds the pressure, a major leak that won't let it keep pressure, or a faulty fan clutch that blows the freon out the relief valve.
If you smell a stinch coming from the vents then you will know the evaporator in the dash has a leak and is letting the freon come into the cab with the cool air. It really smells like old sneakers so you will have no problem diagnosing that one. Hope this helps but I would never take it to the dealer unless the last resort (evaporator). Those are a bear.

i wouldn't take it to a dealer either... and yes i do work on my AC at home... i have a EPA universal cert. auto is easy, just like mentioned above, plug the can in, start engine, turn AC on, the suction side of the compressor will suck the 134a out of the can. if you over charge you will know it! the suction line going to the compressor will ice up! that is unevaporated refrigerant making its way to the compressor, (turning your comp. into a pump) it will be hard to do if the system is empty, it should take a whole can. you do not need to add oil. they will rape you at an AC shop or dealer, just cause they can... their leaktest method is either adding dye to the system, using a sniffer or simply looking for seeping oil on all the fittings... none of it is very effective. these days auto AC's are ony good for 7 years, give or take... then they will need recharged. your problem could also be the clutch, exhaust all other methods first, there is a low pressure switch to protect the compressor, so chances are you are out of juice. hit me up with any other questions. good luck blowin cold.
