2003 Dodge 3500 Diesel Engine + Trans. Temp
Is there a way to put a toggle switch on the electric fan clutch so if you want it you could make it enguage? I was told by the dealer not to worry about the temp untill it gets to 230+ deg on the engine and 220+ 0n the transmission. That seems way to hot for the truck with a load. I am seeing temps at 200 deg empty and 190 deg on the transmission empty. They told me thats normal unloaded and with a load it will go up 20+ degree. Would a 180 degree thermostat be a better choice for lowering the engine and transmission temp?
First, it's a Diesel, you do need it warm.
Next the temps the dealer are talking about as far as water temp are OK. I just finished a coast to coast run pulling my 5VR with A/C on and only saw temps get to about 220 going up the big grades with the wind killing me. As fara as tranny temps the only time I see the get up to 190 is when backing the trailer into a spot and having to doing alot of manuvering.

The toggle switch you are looking for is called the A/C button.
Turn the A/C on and your fan should engage pretty quickly. I run a 180 stat and mine runs pretty cool even when I tow so I'm all for it but most guys here will tell you not to get one..... 200 degrees is about the max I see.....
