2003 diesel three transmissins 20,000 miles

My truck is a 2003 quad cab long bed Diesel with automatic transmisson, I blew out the firsr overdrive houseing at 6,000 miles the case cracked. I blew out the second overdrive section and transmission at 10,000 miles same thing the case cracked at this time I also blew the drive shaft and cracked the cataltic convertor. all of this was replaced by the dealer. At 20,000 milesI blew another overdrive section it cracked again and was at this time told that I also need a drive shaft as the one on my truck was not the correct one HELLO. I have told the dealer that something was wrong with the drive line from the time I purchased the truck in March of 03 and evey time that something broke. You can fill a viberation at 78 to 83 miles per hour nothing below 78 and nothing above 83. Oh by the way I am on my Fifth Battery also. I have complained to Chrysler and have been give a referance number. I do not want the truck back I want Chrysler to buy it back as a Lemon. What can I expect to get from Chrysler as of today by Truck has been in the shop over 30 days in less that a year. What kind of damage could haveing the wrong driveshaft have done to the complete truck. Motor, Flywheel, rear end gears. any information would be appresicated. I have been told by Moss Bros Dodge in San Beraninado Ca. that a Chrysler rep looked at my truck 4-12-04 but I have heard nothing nor has Moss bros.

I wish I could help you. You definetly got that days Lemon off the line. As far as the buy back goes, all I know is it isn't easy. But it can be done.

I reliaze this is of no help what so ever, but it is better than having your post completely ignored.

Good luck.

On the premise this is legite here is your course of action....

The dealership u purchased the vehicle from is required by federal law to provide u with (at the time of purchase) a form outlining that states lemon law and included in this pamphlet is the form you fill out to file a claim. That form should already be addressed to the proper authority. If you have recieved no such form go to your local dealership and get one, or call DC corporate and they will send u one. Then once the claim is made u will recieve a confirmation from your state attorney generals office informing u they have recieved and processed your complaint. Assuming that the dealership does not in a timely manner resolve the problem (30 days from the time the form is filled out, for most states). If the dealership owns up and takes responsibilty and the lemon law for your state is inacted in most cases they will trade your truck for one of equal or better options from the current model year. Getting them to buy the vehicle back requires a proof of no confidence on the part of the dealership. This usually is where the Attorney general gets involved if nessecary. Most dealerships will not simply buy back your vehicle and your states lemon laws may stipulate that they are or arent required to so read up and pay carefull attention... You dont want to go in to this half cocked and loose any ground you may have. I have done this myself on a Ford Mustang in late 2003. It was by no means easy and took quite some time.

Good luck whatever happens.

Thats great info from Barrett-Fodder.

I'm sure, that as sure as we breath air, it won't be easy.

One of the easiest things we can do is buy a new vehicle. You can have the worst credit on the face of the earth and buy a new car easier than you can finance a TV. But, when that TV is a Dud, the big name store you bought it from will usually bend over backwards to fix it. In fact they often just replace them to keep you, the customer, happy.

Now, step up to that high dollar truck. I'm not saying they should give you a new truck everytime there is a problem. But, when there are major issues from the get go, DC should resolve it.

But Nooooooo, have to get the state atty involved. Geez, something is really wrong with this picture. And to add insult to injury, if they do buy it back, guess what, you'll still get screwed because, I'm pretty sure, they will only give you what ever they normally would for a trade. So you have to cough up some bucks for another truck.

Thats just wrong!!!!

You would think Chrysler would simply give the guy another truck. That's a mess.

Something sounds a little fishy here. I have never heard of anyone having to replace 3 transmissions with so few miles. Is your truck a heavy duty 1 ton 3/4 ton 1/2 etc. Is it single rear or dually. What are you towing. need some info here. All the problems you are having seems not right. Dealer should by the second tranny should have checked the whole drive tran out. But hey if it is all true You should have no problem getting a replacement, Keep all documents and history from the dealer.Remember to be polite while going through the process, the dealer will go to bat for if you handle this in a professional manner

2003 Dodge Diesel Third Transmission
I have received several replies to my orginal message and all of these are appreicated. Several had questions for me about my truck. It is a heavy duty 2500 diesel four door quad cab long bed. I purchased this truck to pull a 5 wheel trailer when I retire. I only use this truck for driveing to and from work and vacations. My usual drive is 60 miles round trip to work. But I do take long road trips on my vacations. I do not haul nor pull anything with the truck. I do have a fiberglass shell on the truck. I have no problems with local driving. The only time the transmission or over drive case cracks is when I drive 10-12 hours days at speed of 65-85 miles per hour. This is when you feel the viberation at 78-82 miles per hour. I have told them from the 3-4 day when I had to take the truck in to get the passanger side seat belt replaced that this truck has a viberation and does not shift right. The dealer told me that they will put on the correct drive shart this time, but they told me this in Sept of 03 when the trans and overdrive section brroke for the second time. My question is how will I know that it is correct this time. I am also concerned about what damage has been done to the rest of the drive line, motor and rearend gears.

Unfortunately, in my experience, the only way they will simply replace the vehicle is if it craps out right on the lot before you even can drive it off.

This happened to me about 10 years ago. Picked out a truck, test drove a couple of miles, signed the papers and when I went to leave, put it in reverse and the trans exploded.

This truck had 8 miles on it. Went back inside and the General Manager said, we will fix it or you can pick out another.

Picked out another.

Now I'd bet money that if that had happened the next day it would have been just too bad. I'd have to wait for a new tranny.

I had to double check what forum I was on... For a moment I thought this was a ford forum by the way the name calling was being tossed around... Maybe we should find out a bit more before we tar, feather, and run the guy out of town on a rail

No, he's not a troll, I know this guy. Used to work with him, and he is indeed having problems. Matter of fact, I believe I am the one who turned him on to DTR.....

Ken, hope you're on the mend. Good luck getting DC to step up and fix this once and for all.

Looks like they might owe you a new truck......
