2003 3500 6 Speed

Going to look at a 2003 3500 6 speed truck today, what issues do I need to look for on these trucks. I have been mainly looking at 2001-2002 trucks. Do these trucks have any LP or IP problems? It seems I have heard
some of these have bad injectors, is there a way to tell? Also, what is the warranty on these trucks, it currently has 51k on it.

The '03 has the lift pump mounted on the fuel filter and it has been a problem. The one you are looking at may have had the fuel pump replaced under warranty and now will be in the tank unit just like the later models. I have not had any problems with injectors in my 03 and I am running a Quad STD box but usually at 60 HP.

Overall I really like my 03 with the 305/555 HO engine. As far as the warranty it could be 7yr / 70,000 miles or 7 years / 100,000 miles or 10 yrs / 100,000 miles. I do not know if the warranty is transferable but should be. My warranty is 7 yrs / 100,000 miles from DC as that is what my dealer was offering as an incentive to purchase the new '03s.

Overall I think the 3rd gen trucks are good but some do have some quirks. Are you buying from a private party or a dealer? If you take the VIN to the Dodge dealer they will be able to track any of the work that DC has done. There have been a few TSB's listed and you can review these at the following website: http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2003-index.htm which is sponsored by Geno's Garage.

Good luck,...........dogger

The 7/70 isn't transferable if it was a fleet vehicle. Mine hasn't had any of the early 03 problems like PS hose or driveshaft vibration. Check out the diff - many 03s were shipped low on lube and the dealers didn't catch it. Craig

64k miles on mine. Turbo had to be changed due to a bad clamp, not the turbo failing. PS pump has had a very small leak for a couple of years. Thats really the only problems so far. I have been told that its better to get an 03 that was manufactured after Feb of 03 because of a few minor changes.

Mine has about 70k now and the only problem I had was ball joints and a/c replaced under my dodge extended warranty, best money I spent got it all back already. Im running a Hypertech programmer on stage III all the time and have had no other issues.
