2 Stroke Oil???

I have read several people talk about adding 2 stroke oil to their diesels...I finally have the nerve to ask why...What does it do and also how do you add it etc...I am curious if I am not doing something that I should be...
Thanks BQB

Don't help him, he's a Patriot Fan!

J/K...It's to help with lubricating everything since the ULSD is poor at lubricating compared to the old LSD. I don't know how much they use though? I use PS or Howe's, whichever is in stock at the local stores.

Sorry, saw the member name and well...ya know...

So basically 1qt to each fill-up? That seems like a lot since I only put in 4-6oz of Howe's/PSP?

I usually add 16 oz. to every 30 gals. Sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. Just really depends on the actual amount of diesel I put in.

Is it a certain type of 2-stroke? Are they all ashless?

I use between 16-20oz per fillup.

Use TC-W3 since it's ashless and won't leave deposits in the combustion chamber.

I would think any 2-stroke oil would work. After all, it's oil designed to burn with fuel. Alot of guys get the cheap brand from Walmart. I've used the cheap brand from Autozone before with no problems.

TCW-3 is outboard oil so its not supposed to smoke. Im sure you can add any other 2stroke you want, provided its not synthetic, and ill just smoke a bit.

I've been running it in mine for a couple of weeks now. I mix it 100:1. I've noticed a quieter, smoother idle and about a 1mpg overall increase in mileage,(hand calculated of course). I use Johnson-Evinrude XD30. I work for a marine dealership so it is readily available and cheap (to me).

I just started using it with the last tank of fuel. I put half a quart to a full tank. Did seem to quiet it down just a bit. I may add a little more next time. I will continue to use it though. BTW I also use the cheap stuff from wallmart.

What is wrong with adding synthetic 2cycle. I have been using it for 180000 kilometers (112000miles) I use a snowmobile oil in the winter because they claim it mixes better in cold weather. I have never had a fuel system problem with this vehicle. The original lift pump was still working when I replaced it with a Glacier 392. I have used it in a F--d 6.9 for over 200000mile with the crummy Stanadyne pump and it never had to be touched either. Who says you can't use synthetic 2cycle and what do they base it on. Remember there are those who say you can't use any 2cycle oil.
What do they know that I don't?

If you can get it the best lube for your fuel system is 2% Bio. If you don't have a place that sells a 2% Bio blend then add 1/2 to 1 gallon of B-100 to each tank and help the farmers out and not the big oil company's.

cummins says 1/2 oz per gallon of used motor oil is acceptable which is 16oz per fill up not 32. I have tried both 32 oz and 16 oz and with 32 oz per tank I got lots of oily soot on the rear fender of my white truck and had lots of thick black carbon in the combustion chamber. at 16oz per fill up the oily crap on the fender has all but gone away. dont know about the carbon in the combustion chamber because I havent blown the the motor again yet buy the 16 oz bottles of walmart 2 stroke and add 1 bottle per fill up and its all the fuel addative/ lubricant you will need.
