That is why mine is stock so they can fix mine if there is a problem.
The 96 I had around 96K or so the head bolts started poping and they replaced the motor.

Glad they are getting you fixed up.
Doesnt sound like you did anything wrong to cause this failure more of a part isssue or or lube blockage somewhere in the block.
Could be a number of things.

Went up there this morning to see my truck, looking good. I did not realize (insert eye roll here) that the "short block" was going to be the block and everything inside that. The timing gears and everything is still on the old motor. The old motor that I posted is still sitting on the floor, same spot. What is left to install is the valve cover, air intake and few motor parts. The radiator & other cooling stuff is also out yet. That looks like Monday or even Tuesday, I'm no longer a gasser driver . It is nice having the 1500 QC to drive while it is being fixed, but that 4.7L gets less mpg than my truck. The power of this 4.7L truck . It has been 12 days and 22 hours since this disaster happened (but who is counting), not real bad wait from a major problem like this.

Glad to hear the dealer's service department coming through!

I doubt you have any more oil problems....Sorry to sound negative, but there may be some things that need attention, after you get the truck back in your hands. It's only natural after a major tear down like this. Be prepared and be patient with the dealer.

I was a bit confused when I read on the other thread that the truck was getting a new short block, then someone was concerned about if the crank or something was OK- which didn't make sense.

A Long Block is a replacement motor that isn't a complete engine, usually minus the intake/exhaust system, valve cover, oil pan, and other accessories. A short block is the same thing, only with no head.

Sorry if I caused any confusion. I most likely use the wrong terminology. Up till yesterday, I thought a short block was just the block and nothing else . I'm learing as I go.

Sounds like it's coming along, you definately just got a fluke
with that engine, I have a GM 5.7 gasser that has 421k on the clock, and it still hasn't been torn down for anything but a timing chain I did 200k ago. I also gauged the rods at 200k, and the bearings were fine, and this is a gasser. All I've been doing for the last 200k is have been topping off the oil with Mobil1,and screwing a new filter on once a year, because it burns a little oil, so all I'm doing is replacing the loss, never changing it totally. I'm trying to make 500k on it, and also I think the rearend lube has only been change once in it's life.

Got my truck back - nice job

Just got back the truck was all washed and ready to go. Took 16 days, not bad. No dents messes or scratches. Under the hood no leaks so far and just like new. I really appreciate everyones input, I'll be keeping an eye on this for a while. But very happy. . The print out sheet was (3) pages. Engine alone was $6400 list .Everything under warranty, they even payed the extra $66 towing charge (long story).

Glad it all worked out for you!!! Sounds like they treated you good.

Yours is one of the VERY few, if any, problem Cummins engine bottom ends I have ever heard of.
