2 problems ????? need help BAD

problem 1:

roll on to the accelerator pedal from a stop engine revs to 2grand and holds for a sec or two then will rev higher if you let off the pedal then roll on to it again it will then accelerate just fine. NOT A GOOD THING WHEN PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC. it does not matter if the truck is hot or cold. and it does it EVERY TIME? changed the fuel filter and still does it.

problem 2

while travleing down the road roll on to the accelerator you hear a load clunk. checked the u-joints (drive shaft and axle), checked the tranny mount and engine mount. any ideas?

i have put 142k on the trucK. with no major problems other than the tranny. i have no codes

I'm not a mechanic, but here's some ideas:

Problem 1: Check all of your vacume hoses. I've had vehicles behave similar to yours as a result of loose vacume hoses.

Problem 2: I used to have a dodge durango that made a significant rear end clunk when it was cold. I realize Ram trucks are not durango's, but mine happened after I had about 30K miles on it due to the limited slip rear diff. Not a problem, just a cold clunk.

My .02.

There are not vacuum hoses on a diesel engine as far as I know. My guess is a throttle position sensor may be bad.

The only vacuum hoses I know of on my rig are those connected to the vacuum pump I installed with my Jacobs exhaust brake.

On the concerns of the clunk try checking the recieving yolk on thr rear end. My 03 Ferd did the same thing when starting off and making turns on the roll.....

It's the tranny if you rev to 2k and nothing happens. Check the kick-down cable, and if not, change your tranny fuild.

maybe i didnt explain it well enough.

when i start out (hot or cold) the truck will rev up to 2 grand but will not go over. if i let off the accelerator pedal and press it again it will run NORMAL, acceleration will be fine. or i can hold it to the floor, then a sec or two it will acclerate normally. and run fine till i shut the truck OFF. if i restart then the same problem all over again. tranny was just service again

problem with the clunking sound gone!!!! he he

Sorry, I'm not familliar with the 3rd gen. But sounds like a simillar condition that the APPS gives in 2nd gens... I'm sure these trucks must be drive by wire too so must have a similar setup. That's what I'd be looking into.

I don't know what it stands for, but it is the fly-by-wire throttle control. No cables. The throttle is all electronic.

I don't see in your truck profile if you have a fueling box or something like that. They will build pressure and you just have to burn the fuel up before they will come back to normal. Mine does that with the Edge box, just something that happens with a fueling box as far as I'm concerned. If you don't have a box, I don't know.

Try the transmission wiring harness. My Ford also did this, You could stand on the excellerator and nothing would happen, let off and do it again and it would rev the engine up. Took it to the dealer and they said it was the wiring harness
