Re:15,000 Service Questions

I've been looking at changing all items over to synthetic and AMSOIL dealer recommends changing over to their 75-140w 2000 series in frt & rear axles, even though MOPAR uses 75-90w syn.

And, AMSOIL is recommending switching 6 spd fluid to their 10-30w Diesel engine oil...

Haven't figured out what to put in the transfer case yet..MOPAR says Mopar ATF+4 ATF

Does this make any sense to anyone?

Here is what I posted in the first page of this thread:

"There sure aren't too many fluid choices for the Transfer case. The manual calls for Mopar ATF +4. Most fluids are only +3 compatible. I know that Amsoil's synthetic ATF will work, and Valvoline MAXLIFE Dexron III/MERCON says it is compatible. I still have to find out if Redline has a suitable fluid."

Maybe others know of alternative fluids that can be used.

Re:15,000 Service Questions

How much fluid does the 11.5" rear diff take to fill up from empty? I need to know how many quarts to buy.

Look for the answer here:

Inspect engine air cleaner, replace if necessary.
You're just talking about the air filter, right??

Changing rear diff is easy. Gasket is reusable. I used an impact wrench to spin the bolts loose on the cover enough to brake the seal and drop the old lube into a pan. Amsoil 75W-90; I put in a little under 4 qts.
I wondered how many quarts it took. Thanks.

I did the transmission while I was under the truck. Nothing special there other than having a 17mm hex to fill it. Just pull one of the bottom PTO cover bolts out.
I don't recall the transmission fluid needing changing at 15K. Did you do it just because or does it call for it to be done?

You're welcome.

Think you're funny do ya?? :P

Four quarts just sounded kind of low to me. I was hoping someone else would either confirm that or say it ain't right. :
The DRM says 7.65 pts (quote "nominal" refill capacities). I'll let you do the math.

Re:15,000 Service Questions

Where did you find that? I couldn't find a capacity for the diff in the manual.

By the way, 7.65 pints equals 3.825 quarts.

Re:15,000 Service Questions

Nice job on the homework. Lil Hoss gets an "A".

The DRM isn't the OM. You won't find that number in the Owners Manual. But its good to see someone RTFM. ;D

Re:15,000 Service Questions

Dodge Repair Manual. I even think someone tried to post a .pdf version here once but was pulled quickly.

The DRM is also much better organized than the OM. They make you work for the info in the OM. I find something new in it every time I look at it - unfortunately its usually not what I'm looking for at the moment.

Ahhh....the Dodge Repair Manual....I have that. I just didn't think to look in it for fluid capacities. Silly me. :

Re:15,000 Service Questions

Is there a link to the service schedules somewhere? I'd plan on doing light hauling and <6000lb trailer hauling with this beast, and replacing the diff fluid every 15k just seems excessive. Just curious if any other suprises exist.
