In the last week or so, there are a lot of posts on various boards about this. My personal uninformed opinion is that it is fuel related, as everyone has different miles on their trucks. Maybe the computer is freaking out due to the switch from winter to summer fuel.
BTW, my truck is doing the same thing.

Yup got the same problem. Mine has 8000 on it. Been pinging along since about 1000...Only in the 1500-2000 rpm range. Dealer says it is normal. I am going to be taking it to another dealer soon. Im sorry but I just dont beleive it is normal.

If this noise is a muted clattering/pinging that sounds like injectors and is off in the background during light roll on and roll off of throttle (in that rpm range) then it is normal. This is the sound of timing advance, and it's particularly noisier when the engine is cold. It's not surprising that there were a LOT of posts like this when winter started this year. This noise is made louder by performance boxes that advance timing, and I wasn't able to identify it (I used to worry I had bad injectors) until I installed a box. This made me feel a lot better. I always wondered if I did have bad injectors then why was my mileage good..

Mine knocks even at idle sometimes, mostly the clatter and pinging is at 2200 when rolling into the throttle. Like lightman my mileage has always been good with good egt's. Last 9000 miles I have averaged 20 mpg+ empty on daily driving with no intersate winter fuel and idleing in town.

its caused by the pilot injection of fuel.
