07' Mega Cab, Loose Steering
07' Mega Cab, Loose Steering
Last week I bought an 07 Mega Cab, Auto, 4x4, Cummins. I only have 200 miles on the truck and I love it, but I think that it has some excessive play in the steering wheel. It's not much, but it's enough to keep you busy keeping the truck straight on these Oklahoma roads.
Am I being too picky or is this a problem that exists with these trucks. Does anyone have a home remedy that I can try before I let a dealership tear apart a brand new truck looking for the problem. I hope it turns out to be my picky self, or at worst, a problem that I can remedy at home.
Thank you,
LT

If it's just play in the steering wheel then it's probably play in the sector shaft of the steering box. 99% of Rams seems to have this. A DSS steering brace will fix it. You can read about them here: http://www.solidsteel.biz/dss.htm
I've got one and feel like it should be standard equipment on our trucks.

Thank you njmaier! I called them to see if there have been any changes in the 07' model vs. the 06' model and they are looking into it.
I'm hoping that this will take care of it and I am willing to try it before sending it to the dealer.
I would also appreciate any other comments on the subject if anyone else has anything to add.
Thank you again.

Wow. I just called the OH dealer listed on ther web site. The DSS is reasonable priced at $235 but shipping, WTH. Shipping cost was $52.35 + anohter $15 bucks. Guess I have to pay shipping from Canada to them and then from them to me. Total $300 bucks. I was hoping $250, guess not.
Anyone know of any other solid DSS products that address the steering box?
