06 Truck turbo surging

I have a friend with a 06 and he says that when he's driving down the road at a consistant speed and then he hits a hill and the trucks starts to bog a lil, unless he hits it hard and hits the passing gear, the turbo will surge, he say's , "quote" it wooshes and bogs down really bad. I told him to me it kind of sounds like the Map sensor, but I'm no expert. The trucks mods are AFE stage II, predator programmer and "Quad boost fooler". He said he took everything off, except the intake of course and it still does it. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

Mine does it too with the aftermarket intake and exhaust. Learn to drive around it. If he thinks its bad now tell him to throw a bigger turbo on there and it will really do it. Engine is not turning enough RPMs when bogged down to spin the turbine enough to produce sufficient boost in the compressor housing for the amount of fueling under load. He just needs to learn to work the throttle to get the tranny to drop a gear sooner. Just as the obvious answer to this problem on a manual would be to 'downshift'

No, it's a auto. Just seems strange to me that it just started doing this about a month ago?

Kinda wooshes like an intake boot has split and let all the boost pressure out making a wooshing sound? Look for split boots or a split intercooler.
Back to evening beverages. . .

I agree with FMB, if it just started happening,it sounds like it's a boost leak. Check as FMB suggested, you can use a spray bottle of soapy water to help spot the leaks. They can appear small at idle because the turbo isn't "boosting."

Mine was surging at the higher RPM's under some load/throttle when Smarty and TST were running, so I backed off on those 2 in the fueling department, and the surging seemed to lessen. After having the turbo checked, they found the the housing on the turbo was cracked and leaking.
