06 oil pan gasket replacement cost?

Hey all -

Was up on a family camping trip this weekend, and I noticed that my oil pan is leaking at the back. I got up in there and tightened the bolts, but it didn't go a lot of good. When we got back into town, I took it over to the carwash and sprayed it off really good so I could see where it's leaking, and it's pretty obvious its the oil pan - I'm just glad it's not the rear main seal, or coming from the blowby tube....

Anyways, this looks like a bigger job than I can do since the engine needs to be lifted up.

Has anyone had this done recently? What was the cost? I have found older posts here from 2011, and they show anywhere from $600-$1200.

Dealer told me 600.00. Found out it was rear main. Friend owns a tranny shop 285.00 including seal. A lot cheaper if is a rear main. just doesn't seem right does it.

Good to know. I don't think this is the rear main - the mechanic I called had me check inside of the inspection plate to see if it was dry - it was. I got 3 quotes: $820, 998 & 1025. I talked with the $820 shop, and feel pretty good about them, so I scheduled the appointment.

Update -
I took it to the shop, and they confirmed that it is the rear main and not the oil pan gasket. Still the same cost - I was quoted $800.

Not sure about the '06s but earlier CR engines were known for leaking cam seals.....it's just a square shouldered o-ring....couple of bucks at Cummins but labor intensive to replace (trans has to be pulled). Have the shop check for that as well while it's apart.
