The pinion angle is merely compensation)
My shudder actually goes away when loaded. And I only get it in 1st gear up to 5 mph or so.

Most of the time, driveline shudder from the U-joints is caused by the truck being too high (either from being empty, lifted or both), which is cured with the correct carrier bearing shim. I made a half inch spacer for mine that works for stock ride height.

Sounds like some trucks experience the same thing in the other direction - when the truck is too low, so anything that raises the ride height enough should cure the problem.

I have the same problem on my 2500 mega. Dealer drove it noticed it didn't know what to do so they drove a couple new ones they all did it. To me DC has a problem here and they need a TSB on this. The guys said they logged it and dont think it is a big problem...??? Huh? So please post up if you notice anything that solves it... Mine does it unloaded and I haven't had any real wieght in the back yet dealer said it may feel worse with something on the back...

I don't know if DC has a TSB on this, but I do know they have several different carrier bearing shims with different thicknesses and part numbers for the techs to choose from when curing the problem/customer complaint.

OK, you guys have me worried? I am thinking of trading my quad for a mega. What should I expect or look for in this shudder if I test drive a mega. TIA

The lower the gear, and the harder you accelerate in it, the more likely you are to hear it...

It's easily remedied, though - so don't let it stop you from trading up.

Yeah the Mega-limo is worth it! The shudder is really a very small thing and I wouldn't change a thing... but some may be worse than others... it happens only in 1st gear and at low speed for me.

As a data point:

No shudder in my 06 MC 3500 dually 2 wheel drive empty or loaded. All factory suspension.

I've usually heard about it affecting the 4WDs, because of their longer suspension travel.

Its well known that a longer spring rides softer than a shorter one. The dodges use a longer spring than ford or chevy, This would invite spring wrap . its not necisarily a weak spring. I agree that driveline angle would play a large part in this problem, but I think so would spring wrap, which would be magnified by pulling more weight. Has any one tryed tracktion bars?

Spring wrap is usually a problem while drag racing or sled pulling - I wouldn't think traction bars have much towing benefit. I think the core problem is driveline angle, of course airbags can cure the syptoms and in any event don't have a downside - especially if towing.

I had actually expected this result also, but when I finally got the hitch in, and hooked up the trailer, what a surprise. I cured my unloaded lauch shudder with a shim under the steady bearing, but the loaded launch shudder is proving much more challenging.

Wonder why 2 trucks could be so different?

My term for a center bearing. I have heard both terms used.

Wow, I just picked up a 2006 4x4 Mega Cab and noticed this on my truck as well. I wasn't sure if I was being too picky (my father & brother think I nit pick my trucks too much), but evidently others are experiencing it.

As for the other posters who expressed concern about not buying a Mega Cab because of this, I would definately say to buy one. Its such a minor issue, for what is otherwise a really fine truck. As long as its harmless, I can live with it until DCX comes out with a TSB
