G56

Six speed manuals are all G56 from the middle of 2005 model run. Mine was built in May '05 with G56.

My reverse is to the left and down. The previous tranny was an NV5600 (?), which has reverse to the left and up.

Actually, it's to the right and up.

g56 has lightweight Al case, closer ratio gears, and dual mass flywheel in clutch. NV5600 heavier case, lower rpms at highway speeds. i've had good luck w/ my g56 and think it shift better than NV's ive driven. some think the G56 is too light and not as strong but once the clutch is upgraded they seem to hold power just fine

The G56 is a nice shifting trans but does not hold higher hp levels as well as the NV5600's do. And Im not implying the nv is bomb proof! I have a broken main shaft laying around to remind me of that.

The G56 does tend to growl a bit with a conventional clutch, having been designed for a Dual Mass.
