Trans is a G-56. It uses ATF +4. There are many different options out there to chose from.

The trans and transfer case both use ATF+4 which is a synthetic fluid. I stuck with the Mopar brand when I changed mine. The diff's call for 75W-90 synthetic fluid also. Choose your poison with that, as long as it meet GL-5 specs.

BTW, the transmission is a Mercedes, and the transfer case is New Venture.

I have switched to amsoil in my auto, rear diff and motor, got 60 thou on her now and no problems at all, I use the 75-140 in the diff, as I tow lots. as long as they have the same rating, there good to go.

Mopar ATF +4 is group 3 base, I believe, so it could be called synthetic.

The factory fill, and warranty requirement for the axles is full synthetic 75W90 that meets GL5 standard. My dealer recommends 75W140 if you tow heavy in hot climates.

Personally, I run Mopar +4 ATF in trans/transfer case, and Redline 75W140 rear and Redline 75W90 front.

Well towing heavy and being located in Hot climates is a big yes,,,, I think the 75W140 may fill the bill.... on the axles/diffs,,,,, the truck had 68K on it when I got it and was supposed to have been fully serviced when I got it but the fuel filter didnt apear to be fresh
so I have been redoing all of it for peace of mind!!!!

This is a great forum and chocka-block full of good info,,,,,

I really appreciate the responses,,,, and now its time!!!!!

I am using Amsoil ATF in the tranny/xfer case and their Severe Gear 75w140 in the diffs. I bought a case of 12 quarts ATF and diff fluid, still have some left. I tow heavy loads, live in a hot climate, roads are REAL hot surfaces.

Cool,,, so it seems to be holding up well???????

Here is a neat link on the Amsoil web page that has all the fluid amounts and types for the whole truck just go to the little window on the top left and type in your year hit the build list button,,, and it pops up!!!!!!
