05 Question

Now I've been searching the forums for awhile now, and have got a bunch of great info but just wondering if some of the more expierenced guys could lend some advice. I've always wanted a diesel, my brother had a 95 2500 12 valve. Beast of a truck, great on fuel. I couldnt believe how much more power/torque and size of truck he was getting far better mileage out of his then my 07 chevy gas.

But anyways I'm currenting in the market for a newer dodge and found a 05 3500 5.9 auto. The main reason I'm looking at it is the dealership will give me the remaining amount left on my chevy which I want.

But so I'm just looking for some good advice on things to look out for, its got 167000km which seems a bit high to me. But things like front end, tranny, brakes, engine, anything I should be aware of at the mileage?

I've been told to mainly check the front end, and possibly the transmission on how hard its been used. I took it for a test drive, engine sounded and ran great, I'll have to take on a longer test drive to see how the trans is, but I noticed not a pull but slight tilt to the steering wheel as I drove, couldof been one flatter tire or maybe the alignment? I think the brakes are pretty down there as they were very responsive.

Thanks guy. Any other advice would be great. I've been trying to get a friend to come see it far more knowledgable then me but havent yet. Also the dealership is gonna run it through their shop for me to see if anythings wrong.

One last thing also, I know the dealership should know but on the console it read D,2,1. It should be a 4 speed auto right? And is there a code or anything to find the rear end gear ratio?

another item to look for is plastic end/ tank intercooler, they are known to pop and not the best thing to rely on..... might have been changed out, if not I woul d ask the dealer to do it in good faith for longevity sake, especially if you plant to add to the power of it.

Mine did need front end ball joints and bearings at around 175000 but thats been about my only issues - at 240000 now. If you pull heavy loads the 05 doesnt have the overdrive lockout, just a tow mode button that changes shift points. Bd diesel has a lockout kit though for this.

Thanks guys. I'm gonna have a better look at it on friday. Price seems pretty good to me even if I need to get some front end things checked over or fixed in the near future.
