05 Fuel Milage
How do you figure? If you paid invoice minus rebates for your truck, you shouldn't lose more than $5K on a sale. If you paid MSRP that's a different story. The majority of the public doesn't know the differences between an '04, '04.5, and '05, other than the minor cosmetic differences and 20HP. Plus, why would you sell yours? According to this thread you're getting 19-20mpg now on the highway. Sounds to me like the 04.5 you have is a pretty solid truck. I just hope my '05 gets that kind of mileage!
I have a few miles over 500 on my '05 and the computer shows 16.6 I am going to Tucson tomorrow and expect it to increase. I filled on the way out of town the day after I got it & it had 95 miles on it. Very light load of 500# & 2 people going & refilled at the same place after putting 297 additional miles on it & it took 17.6 gal for 16.9mpg at 70-80 mph. I haven't reset the computer yet and driving around town and short freeway trips at 65 is giving me the computer avg of 16.6 for 580 total miles.
If you keep your foot in it off the line there is no way you can get good milage even though the it goes pretty good (and is fun- who says old guys need a Vette!!). I've only done that twice and the tires broke loose both times, quite a change from the older ones I had. I think the milage will compare the average driving in my old ones at 18 plus after it is broken in and the 12mpg I used to get when loaded at 17K.
If you want a new one and don't mind leaving the $$ on the dealerships driveway on your way out - go for it. Jeff

just bought mine on tuesday. milage so far is way different. i reset the overhead display once i got up to speed on the freeway and drove about 13 miles. said i was getting 14.9 at 70mph. i've got 3.73 gears in it and at 70mph the rpms are 1800. around town the milage is staying at 12.5mpg. this sucks since my 2003 which was identical to this one (except it was a 6 speed, 4.10's, and a 555) was getting 17.5 around town and almost 20 on the freeway.
in the trucks defense, i only have 192 miles on it and this is all from the overhead display. i know once the motor breaks in it will get better. it won't be as good as the 2003 because of the automatic transmisson though.
once i fill her up i will figure it by hand and see what the real mileage is.
on a side note.....i have noticed there are a lot of people ordering their trucks and haveing to wait for them to come in. are there just not many trucks on the lot where you are ordering from? or are you just ordering them with everything you want on them? there were at least 5 new 2005's on the lot where i bought this one from and at least 30 to choose from if you counted all of the dealers in my area. i ended up with everything that i wanted (even the color) and didn't have to wait except for the hour it took to buy and sign the paperwork.
