You can add the Jake brake to the 48re tranny and maintain the warranty. The tranny according to the 2006 Ram pamphlet has been beefed up and the colntols programed to accept the Jake brake. Also you can use tow/haul mode or O/D off mode.

reecegr:

Welcome to the website!

A couple of changes have been made to the Cummins 5.9 Engine for 2006. One change was going from three (3) electrical connectors to the electronic injectors, down to two (2) for the 2006 model engine. In the 2006 model engines, the wiring harness to the injectors kind of goes through the valve cover gasket. On the 2006 engines the front electrical injector connector controls the front three injectors and the back connector controls the back three injectors. IMO, this was probably done for emissions reasons.

The injectors on the common rail engines are electronically controlled. For 2006 they now have three (3) separate "firing events" versus two (2) events (pre and post) on the pre-2006 models. The valve cover is also somewhat larger (deeper) on the 2006's.

Hope this helps you some.

I noticed that below the preheater on the right side of the engine as you face it, something has been moved.(not sure what it is?) This makes the engine compartment look more spacious. What is it??

Hey Shep1.....I'm thinking of getting a rig that is configured pretty close to yours....what kind of mileage are you gettin...Hwy(speed) vs City? I am concerned I'll have to take a drop compared to my old one! Thanks!

The seals are redone around the doors, and I understand they also redid the body supports. I test drove numerious 05s and have noticed that the 06 is much quieter in the cab and seems to be hae less overall vibrations from the eng/drive line. I preffered the 05 and ordered one back in apr 05, 2 mo later they notified me they converted the lines to 06, needless to say was a little upset. I'm getting use to the new design and like the refinement. Supposely they also improved the fuel econemy for 06, hope is in fact the case!

The sharp turning radius seems to be "tighter". They are way quieter. The shifts on the auto are smoother.

xyzer, I'm just getting ready to fill up for the third time. I fill untill it kicks off and round up to the next $.
1st. tank, 50-50% hwy/city = 15.2 mpg.
2nd. tank 60-40% hwy/city = 16.35 mpg.
This one I think is going to be in the 14 mpg range with 60-40% city/hwy driving.
these were hand calculated. Over head on first tank was the same, second tank aprox. 1mpg less than hand.
I'll try and post this fill asap if I can get back to the computer. I think the wife and I are going for a long Highway drive today so maby tommrow.
Truck has 1600 mi. on the clock.
Needs to get broken in.
Try to get the brochure from Dodge dealer, lots of info in it.

"Just cant drive this truck enough."
