I really like my 06, has been trouble free, except, had to change the rear diff, seal on the drive shaft side, no big deal, got 60 thou on her and thats the only thing I have had to do. And I have towed 9000lbs for half that mileage, think she is a keeper.

I was not aware that they made Mega Cabs in '05.. But happened to be filling up few wks back along side of an '06 Mega. We were talking about the difference and trying to notice.. The only thing physically outside..were the taillights. NOt sure about the interior and the options offered between the '06-07 There are probably other differences possibly others here with more knowledge in this area will chime in.

I love my '06 MC, and while it's had some minor issues (HVAC and stereo) overall it's been great and I'd buy another one!
FWIW - I thought the '06 was the last year the truck was available without the new emissions equipment, but I may be wrong.

If you plan on doing major engine mods, I'd recommend against any 5.9 truck made after June 2006. They all have slight ECU changes which don't play very well with the TST tuners, and some of us are having challenges getting full power from our trucks.

Mines an 07 and one of the last of the 5.9's put into a Dodge. I've not had any problems making power, although I will say I'm not making near what Phil is.
If you're wanting a manual transmission one of the good things about the last of the 5.9's is getting the G-56 with a taller overdrive.

Other then blend door replaced and two injectors going bad my 06 has been trouble free. Just rolled over 35K and doing great.
Only thing I do not like about my truck is the interior will stain just looking at it!!

There is no G. There is no G. Repeat after me, THERE IS NO G!
Ain't that the truth. I was eating a hot dog and dropped chili on my gray seat
My '06 has been doing great. My reason for going that year is it was a nice balance between young miles and price. I'm keeping it until the wheels fall off...then I'll probably put new wheels on and go again.

I vote 06. Have also had an 04 quad cab... But the 06 supports exhaust brake on the auto tranny and does not have the emissions stuff the 6.7l has...
Early 07 with 5.9l would be similar.
