04 CTD oil pressure range?

I got my new to me 04 yesterday which has been well taken care of. It has 192K miles from prior owner driving 1 hour to and from work each day. Anyway, when the engine warms up at idle the oil pressure gauge reads about 20-30 pds. and when I step on the gas and drive it will increase to around 45-60 pds. I've only owned a 7.3 diesel, this is my first CTD. Is this normal? The engine idles perfectly at 750 RPM and sounds great and runs great when driving. When I first start the engine and it's not warmed up it idles at about 40 pds. for on oil pressure gauge. Bear with me, I'm learning as I go. I can already tell this truck has more power than my 7.3 and gets better MPG.

is that reading via a manual oil pressure gauge or the dash gauge? the dash gauge is a dummy unit getting the reading from a 7 psi pressure switch and the compuiter adjusting the engine temp and load on the motor to tell the gauge as what psi the motor should have.

Yes, it is the dash gauge and I'm not completely sure what you're saying but I take it my oil pressure is fine?

Sounds very similar to how mine performs with 131k on the odometer. Welcome to the Cummins club!!

You only have 26K miles on your 04 CTD?! Do you leave it in your showroom for weeks at a time?

Correct. Mine does too. A couple recent threads on this as well - look further down, or on the next page.

After warm-up, reads at bottow of "normal" range at idle, and slightly above halfway on acceleration or high-speed cruising. It is a dummy, though - the computer is telling the gauge what to do based upon what is "should" be doing if it were a true mechanical gauge.

When I first start the engine and it's not warmed up it idles at about 40 pds
This is also what mine does. By the way, I have about 50,000 miles on my truck. You will LOVE yours. These are great trucks.

Shoot. I put more than 26000 miles on my old 03 the first year I had it. I just got this truck a couple months ago and the low miles is the main reason I got it. I usually put about 15-20,000 miles on my trucks per year but now I have a beater car to commute in so this truck will not rack the miles up so quickly. Plus driving the car to and from work makes me appreciate my truck that much more when I do get to drive it........

Me too...

I get about 35k a year... when fuel hit 3 something a gallon I bought a roller skate with 40mpg.

I agree... makes one appreciate the truck more.
