03 Won't shift into O/D

My buddy is on a trip right now and wanted me to post this for him. He has an 03 4 speed auto with a mag high-tec pan. Where hes at its about 32* and tranny is reading 132*, it will not shift into overdrive he drove for about an hour. Anyone have an ideas? Could it be the temp of oil, not hot enough because of the bigger pan. He has tried shifting it in and out of O/D multiple times no joy. Any help would be great.

I just went through this with my trany. For me it was the trany temp sensor, I was told if it doesnt read the right temp the computer wont let it shift into overdrive. I went to every shop in town most said that my overdrive cluthes were shoot becouse it had no codes. Seems most guys dont know how any thing works they just fix what there little magic boxes tell them to fix. Lucky for me I found some one who know right away what the prob was he had it fixed in 1/2 hour. Hope he gets it solved and its somthing goofy like mine was.

Thanks for the info that is what we were leaning towards was a temp sensor. About how much is the part by chance?
Thank again,
Jake

If the temp sensor is not the problem, you might have a broken wire in the cable going from engine computer to trans computer. That's what happened to me and it took my service tech (who is really sharp) and Chrysler engineers about 3 days to find the trouble. They used a jumper wire to fix it because there was not another cable anywhere (I'm talking all of Chrysler's depots, dealers, etc.) Haven't had any trouble since then.

It could be a bad seal on the overdrive piston, could be valve in valve body sticking or overdrive solinoid bad, I have seen all 3 cause this problem.

I have an 03 and had the same problem. Took it to the dealer and he told me when I went to pick it up that they had changed something called a timing clock. I have no clue what that is but it fixed it.
