To drain it you have to remove the bottom bolt of any of the 2 PTO covers.
To fill it up you should use the top bolt of the covers or better take shifter off inside cab and fill from there. It's best if you overfill by at least 1 quart.

It actually is the fill plug but it's been proven the fill through top PTO hole will help with lubrication and cooling.

Do a search on NV5600 on this site, you'll find about 2 weeks worth of reading. There's a lot of information, opinions, etc about these transmissions.

I think it's 17mm allen. I took a 3/4" hex allthread connector and filed one end til it fit. Pull a pto cover and mop out the remaining oil and clean off the magnet that's in the bottom. I drilled and tapped a drain in mine. Craig

If a person wanted to check the oil level in his NV5600, how would I go about it? Can I check it through the top PTO bolt hole? Will anything drain out if the bolt is removed? I had my tranny oil changed 5000 miles ago, and now it seems to shift a little stiffer than before. Could it be low on oil?

Thanks

Can check the level via the large allen plug on the driver side of the tranny. If it's on level ground and the shop used that hole for filling very little fluid should come out.

Use the top PTO hole for adding the extra quart above the stock level.
