03 HO Surging/Does not idle down

Hey guys, I've got a question. Sometimes when I take my truck out of gear it will stick between 900 and 1000 RPM and sit there, almost like the pump is sucking air. But I don't think that's what it is. I've heard theories from injectors sticking open to the turbo going bad. It doesn't seem to matter if its cold or warm and sometimes as the truck comes to a stop it will idle down. It just seems like a weird problem, and I don't want to be faced with a melted piston in another few miles. Happen to anyone before? Thanks for the help.

Sounds like the APPS (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor). Timbo01 (a member on this forum) makes a replacement that's cheaper and better quality than the OEM.

I had the same problem with my 06' and actually posted this problem awhile back, tried everything from replacing the fca, to the apps. If its not idling down in park or neutral then its leaking injectors, had to replace all six at once on mine.

I had an APPS go out and when it went bad it was like the pedal wasn't being pushed in at all or the truck just didn't recognize that it was. I would be driving and all of a sudden it would feel like it quit delivering fuel. I could push the pedal to a different position and it would act normal and "come back to life". It didn't throw a code the first few times then about two days later it threw a code and would put the truck in limp mode. It was a very noticeable - throw you into the windshield - type of surge.

For what its worth, it sounds more like injectors to me...'03 trucks are known to have injector issues.

Surging problems are difficult to diagnose because there are so many sources of the potential problems. I've been chasing a surging issue with my truck for a few months now...

My truck had the same issue. When I installed my SMARTY it went away. I have no doubt that it is a computer programming related issue.

If it idles down at a stop, it's normal, at least for mine.

Sometimes it idles down as I slow down to a stop. Other times it just stays stuck right under 1000. Think it could just be a glitch? It doesn't seem to do it if I'm in neutral and I just rev it.

If it doesn't do it in neutral, its probably in the computer like another post stated. I would try reflashing before pulling injectors.
