03 4th gear hunting

I have adjusted my throttle valve cable but I think it is as short as it can go. This trans seems to have never shifted very well and I cuss it after driving it on a trip. I am always punching the o/d button. I do have a ats commander which is a great add on and lets me compression brake with the convertor locked up . Without it I am sure would have gone through brake pads and rotors. There is a electrical mod for the 98-2002 models to cure this through ats but I haven't gotten a response from them yet whether that would work on a 03.

Any suggestions?
Thanks, Jim

if your trans has never shifted very well, then it cld very well b the gov. pressure solinoid acting up on u. This is such a common problem on our trucks that dodge issued a tsb 4 it. its easy to change and the part is about 60 on ebay, bout 110 at the dealer of course. changing that part out seems to help cure alot of tranny sifting issues. hope this helps.

If I leave the ats commander off , then run the truck with the o/d on , it will up shift through all the gears and in o/d at 40 mph. When loaded with my 3k lb camper , light throttle , o/d button off , it will up shift into o/d at around the same speed. I usually will have to punch the o/d button off and let the truck speed up to around 50-55 then od shift it, then let the t/c lock up . This " computer transmission control " really is a sore spot with the truck. I do pull a 4k lb boat behind the truck with the camper on and loaded for vacation. I think I will wear out the o/d button eventually.
Thanks for all the replies,
Jim
