Will a G56 trans Bolt In Where a NV5600 Should Be ?

In my search for a trans or parts (nv560o 4x4) I am realizing that with the current situation on parts that all these guys who upgraded from the 5 to 6 speed somewhat screwed themselves for the future.
I never would have thought it would be so hard to find parts for a 3 year old truck.
If a g56 would bolt right up I am going to look into that aspect instead of wasting my time trying to bandage another fututre problem.
Obviously it would bolt right up to the engine, BUT:
Are the clutches the same ?
Shifter location ?
Transfer case the same ?
Length, since you'd have 2 driveshafts to buy?

Anybody know ? If I go this route it's gonna be done by trans shop since thats where it is now and you all know how shops are about tryinsomethin different. I need to know if it will work before I mention the thought to them. Tired of these guys thinking they know it all. Kind of like when they tell you a 2001 headlight won't fit on a 96 truck. Why not ? Because my book says it's different. Yeah well it looks different, but it still has the same shape and bolts in !

I am also very interested in this thread. My 04.5 truck has been sitting @ the dealership for 9 weeks and 2 days as I type this. That is a long time to wait for my truck. I suggested the g56 swap to the service rep. They said no.

Sounds like a fun mod. My ’05 with the G56 has the NV271 transfer case. The back end of the case is that same as what they have been making for years. The GV unit doesn’t care what trans you have just the transfer case; the same GV fits the older trucks.
Is the front end of the case where it matches the transmission the same? I don’t know. It depends on if the G56. Is it identical to what Mercedes has been using for years, or did they change the case for the dodges or did they change the NV trans case for the G56, or were they the same to begin with.

Shifter location? I’m sure it is in the ballpark and even if it isn’t it won’t take much to make it fit.

Clutch? Can’t help you.

Drive shaft? Might cost you a few bucks if both need modified.

My transfer case is th NP 271, I assume they are the same. As for the driveshafts. I believe you would just have to lengthen the rear a little and shorten the front a little. Probably run about $400 for that work. If that is the only cost, it would be worth it in my book.
