$4500 For Injectors!
So I took the truck to the dealer this morning cause it was hard starting when warm. This afternoon they said it needs all new injectors due to dirt contamination over time. They want $4500 dollars for rebuilt ones. Is there another way to solve this problem such as having a shop rebuild them for less money or something. I am not very happy about this since a couple of weeks ago I brought it in for this problem and they put the in-tank lift pump update in for a lot of money. Im also considering trading it in since the dealer has trucks marked down so cheap. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ted

I bet the dealer is trying to make a 400% profit....$4500 are they nuts..There must be aftermarket performance injectors for these trucks for way less.I'm a 12V guy but doesn't 2001 injectors the same as 2003?Because the guys here have 2001 and a high end injector is no $4500....I would not take your truck to this dealer again.....$4500 for injectors give me a break......Ok I'm off the rant....

I've always had in my mind that if I have an injector failure I'm going straight to aftermarket injectors. Cheaper, better reliability, more power. Whats to hate about that!

Send them to Don at F1 Diesel, have him check them and upgrade them to 40hp injectors. Better spray pattern, more durable. Then get some good filtration on that thing like the GDP 2micron kit to keep crap in the fuel from making it to the injectors in the first place.
That's what I would do.
I could do a turbo, injectors, gauges, intake, studs and fuel system for that much.

2001 and 2003 don't use the same injector at all.
A 2003 is a common rail engine where a 2001 is a electronicaly controlled mechanical injection rotary pump. (VP44)
Not the same animal, injectors for the CR engines are very expensive but I don't know what a good price is.
I'm sure someone who had to replace them ill chime in.

I think $900 each is the going rate for new injectors. I replaced a bad injector on mine for about $300. I think it came rebuilt from the Cummins dealer instead of new from Dodge.

Make sure that if you buy some injectors, they are 03-04s 04.5 and newer have a different spray pattern. A 03-04 injector will have 018 on the top and the04.5+up have 032 on the top.

Tim at TRE can definately hook you up. He's a sponsor on this site so look for his banner up top.
I certainly wouldn't pay for a new injector when you can have a working injector upgraded for better performance, spray pattern, and very often better fuel mileage.
