04.5 2500 front u joint replacement Q.. 4x4

I am about to replace my front u joints I have had a look at the joints and I can't see any snap rings to take the yoke out. I have herd that some have been factory glued in and you need to burn them out. Any info would be a great help.

Plastic injection seal in a groove. If you use heat be very careful about getting the yokes too hot and then beating on them. They will stretch and deform and never hold a cap again.

Best way is just press them out cold. Takes a good press and fittings to do it though, thats the kicker.

I just replaced my wheel u-joints and my front driveshaft u-joints.

The wheel u-joints do not use the injected ring. They have c-clips on the inside of the yoke. Sometimes they are hard to see, but they are there.

This is what the injected ring looks like on the front driveshaft.

You do not always need to use heat. I used a typical u-joint c-clamp, and a ratchet with a cheater bar. It took a little bit of force, but the plastic eventually sheared.

I like the quality of the Spicer Lifetime series universal joint. The part number for the front wheel u-joint is 5006813.
It is a non-greaseable joint.
I know some people are really sold on grease-able joints, so the choice is yours.

You could try Coast PowerTrain. They have a location closer to you in Kelowna, and they are a Spicer distributor. But I hope that an autoparts store nearby would carry Spicer.
I am not sure if Lordco Autoparts is in Alberta? NAPA maybe...

You do not re-do the plastic injected rings. They are a one time only, factory install. The replacement u-joints that are installed, even the factory ones, use a standard c-clip that is on the inside of the yoke.

Scott hey buddy . Having a hell of a time getting the whell bearing out .you have any pointers . Gonna get some cold role and beat on the bolt mounts to get it spinning to break it loose. Or get some bolts the same size and try to beat it out from behind .

Loosen all 4 bolts about 1/4 inch then get a deep well socket an put on one of the bolts and use your power steering to turn your steering wheel till the socket runs into something solid on your front axle (sometimes you need a piece of steel or something as a shim) then just bump the steering till it basicly presses it out like a press alternating corners till it walks off, someone else for an extra hand helps also. When you put it back together buff off the rust with a flapper wheel or by hand with some sandpaper and put some antisieze in the bore so if you have to do the job again it will be easy to remove. Hope this helps and good luck.

What he said.
Supposedly the power steering method works really well.
Be careful with the bolts though, or at least have some spares in case you bend them.

I was lucky with mine. I think the design of the unit bearing on 2009+ trucks is a little different. There were four flats on the diameter to reduce the surface area quite a bit.

This will probably make you angry, but mine basically came out by hand with just a little wiggle.
