Where is the keyless receiver ?
Where is the keyless receiver ?
A friend on mine just bought a 2001 CTD. It was given with a set of keys and no keyless remote.
Dealer says there was no remote with this truck (SLT Laramie loaded) and I found it hard to believe.
So here I go and buy a Fob on Ebay, and now we are trying to re-program it. So far we didn't have much luck.
Does anybody know where is the receiver for the signal from remote ? Is it in the ECM or else ?
I figured if it's a visible thing we know it's there.

I want this too. My SLT Laramie is missing CD, Overhead console and remote entry. I would like to put in the console but nobody on this sight told me how. I know Chrysler takes .3 of an hour to instal a remote entry so every truck probably has it but they don't give it to you unless you pay for it. I would love to get around them theives.
Have no idea where the remote reciever is located. Only way I know of to reprogram a key fob is to have a working fob. There should be instruction in the owners manual on how to do it. But with out a fob looks like you are at the mercy of a dealer. First I would call a large lock smith company, they might know. If the doint go to CD web site see if customer service can help. Or call other dealers in the area.
gud luck

I gave my VIN to the dealer parts department and they told me it was equipped with it new. I think, but I'm not sure, another indication is if your doors automatically lock when you drive, it has RKE. From what they told me, there are several different part #'s and you have to have the correct part # for it to work.
The truck is programmed with the Scan tool at the dealer. You can only program additional FOB's if you have one already working.
I had always thought the FOB was programmed to the truck but it is the opposite. I have two of them from my gas truck and figured I would just get one programmed for my diesel truck because the part # matched. When I locked the doors with it, I heard the horn beep on the gas truck as well. That is how I figured out it is the truck that is programmed, not the FOB.
It made for an interesting situation the other night when I accidently pressed the panic button and only one truck got that signal. Was pretty hard to turn one off without turning the other one on!!! I was raining cats and dogs and I ran outside in my socks with no jacket. I finally managed to make it happen but next time I'll just let one of the alarms time out.
I am going to let this FOB go with the truck I am selling and buy another at the dealer, was quoted $35 and I think it cost me $13 to get the truck programmed.

My used 98 came without a remote, but a VIN check revealed it had the capability. Paid $38 for a fob and te dealer hooked up some gizmo to a connector just below the ashtray to program it. No panic, no chirp or beep, no automatic lock with driveoff but the remote works...oh, also no charge for the programming.
Under the dash, above your right knee when you are sitting in it will be a module that controlls a few things, the wiper delay is one of them. This is the module that has the keyless in it if it has one. Adding one that is OEM is difficult and involves a wiring harness and the module. I have a module here but the wiring harness is difficult, so it is not on. Best way to get it is to add an aftermarket unit.
To see if you have it, pull the module and check the part number. At least on our trucks it is easy to get to, the Dakota you have to just about pull the dash to get to it.

I had the same situation on my 01'. I bought the new FOB. took it to the dealer and they programmed it for some where areound $35.00.
I searched on this site how to do it myself but, in order to do it yourself you absolutely need to have one FOB that already works on your truck. I think the only option you have is to take it to a dealer.
