Wheel backspacing problem

Wheel backspacing problem

Ran into a problem today. I bought some wheels and tires 16" off of a 2001 dodge thinking they would fit my 96. They don't clear in the rear they hit the drum! Is the backspacing different from the 96 to 01? I thought maybe a could get some wheelspacers, but is that a good idea? I was just trying to figure something out because I don't know if the guy will give me my money back. Any ideas would be great. Thanks, John

What truck do you have 3/4, 1 ton, any hauling or towing. I wouldn't recommend spacers if your doing any hauling or towing.

I've read a little about this problem that people have run into but haven't paid much attention but it seems that a lot of folks have been able to make new rims fit on old rigs with a little bit of grinding. Don't ask me where to grind though, maybe search for rims will answer your question

I too have read about this one before. I believe you need to do some grinding on the brake drums. Like infidel said, a search will locate the answers.

The newer trucks have different drums which allow the wheels to fit. you may be able to make them fit with some grinding , i have never heard of that before.

You need to remove about an 1/8th from the outer drum lip. I have heard you can have it turned on a brake lathe or grind it. I believe the easiest wat to grind is to put the truck up on stands and put it in gear and let the drum spin while grinding. Grind a little and test fit. Thats what I have heard anyways.. Good luck
